Council’s energy efficiency scheme wins awards
The Herts Essex Energy Partnership (HEEP) which offers grants, loans and discounts to homeowners and private tenants in all of Hertfordshire and some parts of Essex to help generate and save energy has just won the “Best Environmental Project” in the Hertfordshire Green Awards.
The award was presented to HEEP by BBC’s Ethical Man and star of the One Show; Justin Rowlatt. Judges described HEEP as;
"Not only a brilliant green project, but also a way to improve people's lives."
This is the second award the scheme has received recently, having won a national Green Apple Award which will be presented in November.
HEEP was set up by 15 local authorities across all of Hertfordshire and some of Essex, to help alleviate fuel poverty and increase the income of fuel poor households by helping them cut their fuel bills. The scheme offers free or discounted loft and cavity wall insulation at just £49* each (for a limited time only) and grants and loans to help Broxbourne residents insulate solid walls and install renewable technologies in their homes.
HEEP has saved enough CO2 to fill nearly half a million double decker buses
Since being launched in July 2009 HEEP has completed over 4500 installs; saving around 8600 tCO2 lifetime savings - that is enough CO2 to fill nearly half a million double decker buses
Home Insulation - just £49 or Free*
The award coincides with HEEP becoming even better value for residents
as you can get your loft and cavity walls insulated for just £49* each.
This offer is for a limited time only and is unlikely to be repeated.
What’s more, the insulation is FREE* if anyone in your house is either
over 70 years old or in receipt of qualifying benefits.
Free Boiler Replacements*
HEEP has also widened its offer for FREE boilers – you can get a free
boiler replacement if your existing working boiler is 15 years old or
older, and you are in receipt of qualifying benefits.*
Generate your own energy
The Council’s HEEP scheme offers residents 50% interest free loans* to
help pay for a renewable energy technology such as solar photovoltaic
or air source heat pump to be installed.
You could get your renewable energy technology install for Free* if you
are in receipt of qualifying benefits.
By installing a renewable energy technology to generate electricity you
may also be able to benefit from the government’s green energy cashback
scheme called the “Feed in Tariff”. This pays you for the electricity
you generate, whether you use it or not. The electricity you don’t use
can be sold back to the national grid through the Feed in Tariff.
