Get the Gift of Warmth with a New Boiler

Mrs. Gordon of Shenley, Hertfordshire got the gift of warmth for her birthday this year, when her boiler was replaced by the Herts Essex Energy Partnership.

The Herts Essex Energy Partnership (HEEP) is a Government funded and council approved scheme made up of 15 local authorities, including Hertsmere. These authorities are working together to tackle fuel poverty and to make your home more efficient.

Mrs. Gordon completed her NI187 form that was sent to selected households in Hertsmere. In the form Mrs. Gordon stated that her boiler was over 30 years old and that her house was cold. This prompted Sue Hardy, Energy Conservation from Hertsmere Borough Council to contact Mrs. Gordon to discuss her requirements and to see if she was eligible for a replacement boiler under the HEEP scheme. Mrs. Gordon owns her property, had a working boiler over 20 years old and is in receipt of a qualifying income, therefore she was eligible for a new replacement boiler.*

After Mrs. Gordon’s details were verified and her interest was registered she was contacted by British Gas to arrange a convenient time to carry out a technical survey on her property. The details of the survey were then sent to Hertsmere Borough Council for approval and were subsequently approved for install.

The boiler was installed on the 8th February; just 2 months after Mrs. Gordon had applied for the works, and on her birthday! Mrs. Gordon was very impressed with the engineers, she said “They arrived just before 9am and worked straight through their lunch, to 6pm. The two of them just got on with it; I couldn’t fault it at all.”

Mrs. Gordon’s old boiler was over 30 years old: “I moved here in 1988 and I have had the same boiler the whole time. I never used to have the warmth that I had now and its much more
constant and easier to use – the engineer even showed me how to use the programmer!”
Boilers account for around 60% of the carbon dioxide emissions in a gas heated home. By
replacing an old G rated boiler with a new high efficiency condensing boiler and improving your heating controls, you will significantly cut your home’s carbon dioxide emissions and could save as much as £235 a year.**

Mrs. Gordon said “I am delighted. It was such a quick process and the house is much warmer now”.
